Here at Grateful Dog Kennels, Rachel’s personal dogs play an important role in your dog’s stay! During their first day here, your dog will be introduced only to Lakota, Edgar and Maya. This allows Rachel to get a good understanding for how your dog interacts with others and what sort of play group they would do best in. Lakota, Edgar and Maya are rock solid veterans at dog-to-dog socialization and do a great job of making the other dogs feel right at home!
Lakota
11 year old Labrador Retriever. Rachel got Lakota from the Wayne County Dog Shelter in 2013. Lakota had been surrendered there by her owner. As the senior of the group, Lakota now enjoys more leisurely hikes and prefers to supervise while out in the play yard. She is a certified Therapy Dog through Bright and Beautiful and is Rachel’s right hand girl!

Edgar
3 year old Mix. Rachel got Edgar in 2016 after he had been hit by/thrown from a car out in Mahoning County. Edgar was only a few months old at the time and had a severely broken leg. After a couple of surgeries and a lot of rehab, Edgar got much better (although he still walks with a slight limp sometimes because his hip joint had to be removed during his first surgery!). Edgar’s favorite past time includes playing fetch and you would never know he had such a rough start to life! He is a certified Therapy Dog through Bright and Beautiful.

Maya
2 year old Labrador Retriever. Rachel got Maya in 2019 when Maya was transported up to Ohio from a very rural pound in Mississippi. Maya had spent her early life as a stray. Now she is living the life of luxury though! Maya is quite the social butterfly and has endless amounts of energy. She is typically found entertaining the other young, high energy dog and makes a great playmate for them! Every dog that comes to Grateful Dog Kennels can’t wait to play with Miss Maya!
